    Dental care

Your pets teeth are an easily forgotten part of their body, but taking good care of their teeth can greatly increase their quality of life as they age. Dental problems can cause pain when eating and, as the infection progresses, constant pain to the animal. Signs your pet is sufferring from dental problems include:

    • Bad breath

    • Reluctance to eat

    • Teeth discolouration

    • Bleeding gums

There are two sections of dental care; treatment and management.

    Treatment

We can scale and polish your pets teeth here under anaesthetic. In some cases we may also require to remove teeth that have decayed. This can be done as a day surgery and we will give home care advice on discharge.

    Management

Cleaning your pets teeth can be a daunting task. If you are able to clean their teeth with a toothbrush and pet toothpaste then that is the best prevention measure. However, this is often not possible so dental diets like Hills T/d and Royal Canin Dental are advised. These diets have kibble that does not breakdown when your pet bites into them, so they are able to scrape tartar off the teeth.
